CARVED CURRENT | A ZBrush Beta Sculpture by Surajit Sen

I am honoured to have been part of the Maxon ZBrush Beta Testing and humbled to share Carved Current, one of my digital sculptures created during the ZBrush Beta phase.
I envision this fish as a creature born from a forgotten world, where nature and craftsmanship were once inseparable. Its body appears assembled from fragments of time, with every wooden plate, fissure, rivet and elongated fin hinting at a different chapter of its existence.
To me, it is not merely swimming through water; it carries the memory of an ancient civilisation, gliding silently through time as the world around it transforms. The weathered wood evokes age and endurance, whilst its exaggerated fins and unconventional anatomy lend it an almost mythical presence: part fish, part machine, part forgotten relic.
I wanted the viewer to question its origins, contemplate what it might have witnessed, and wonder whether it belongs to the depths of the sea, an abandoned workshop or an imagined world beyond our own.
That ambiguity is deliberate. I am drawn to creating sculptures that do not surrender their entire narrative at first glance, but instead offer visual clues, invite curiosity and leave room for the viewer's own interpretation. For me, digital sculpting is not simply the construction of form; it is the art of giving an imagined creature a history, a character and a world of its own.
