I created “Faty Guy” as an exploration of grotesque mass, exaggerated anatomy and character presence; I wanted the weight of the creature to be felt before its personality is understood.
I deliberately pushed the swollen forms, heavy folds, enormous mouth and irregular teeth beyond conventional anatomy, yet kept the underlying structure believable enough to make the creature feel physically tangible.
I am particularly interested in the contrast between repulsion and character,I do not want a creature to exist merely as a monster; I want its form, expression and surface language to make the viewer stare a little longer.
This is very much how I enjoy sculpting: starting with anatomy and observation, then gradually abandoning reality where necessary until the sculpture develops its own identity, humour and unsettling presence.
